BRIEFING  PACK

We wish you a pleasant stay with us in Arcadia Village. Here we give you some local information to smooth your way. We are right next door and happy to provide any further assistance in case of need.

 The Arcadia Village Code

Arcadia Village is a small, private community of residential properties regulated by a home-owners association. In order to maintain a good, neighbourly atmosphere and to ensure that an enjoyable environment be maintained, residents are requested to abide by a simple code of conduct. The provisions include:

Washing: not to hang washing out to dry on the parapet walls (you do have a tumble dryer)

Noise:  to avoid making undue noise at unsocial hours (basically between 11.00 pm and 7.00 am),

Pets: not to bring any pets.

The Calchos Apartment Code

Smoking: We request guests kindly not to smoke inside the apartment.

Air Conditioning:  We request guests to switch off the air conditioning when they leave the apartment. On return, the units will cool down the apartment within seconds.

Sun Beds:          If you take them down to the pool area, please bring them back when you have finished. Do not leave them there overnight.

Awning: In strong winds the awning must be stowed. When fully open, adjust the awning so that the canvas remains taut.

Ceramic Hob: you are requested to use care and a soft damp cloth to clean the hob. There is a special cleaning product left under the sink.  DO  NOT  USE  ABRASIVES   OR   ABRASIVE   SPONGES.

Luggage: please do not place your luggage on the bed covers; use the luggage racks provided.

Water: The local water supply is safe to drink. In addition there is a spigot at the root of the mixer tap in the kitchen. This delivers water direct from the mains at mains pressure (which is usually low). All the other taps are supplied by the pressurized and sealed storage tanks in the roof.

Deposit : We do not ask for a deposit, we just ask for an imprint of your credit card on arrival. This is in the event of extras to be charged, such as for use of the Internet connection facility, and for any loss or breakages beyond normal wear and tear. We will agree with you any costs before making any charges to your card.

Local Knowledge

Rubbish: The rubbish wheelie bin is located just outside the main gate on the left.

Main Gate: The code for opening the gate is: 1981A. We will also provide you with a key on arrival. Passenger access is always open.

Exit: You can leave by of the automatic barrier at the far end of the street.

Utility Room and Covered parking: These are situated underneath the apartment. Walk around the Calchos block to the left. The portal carries the number ‘001’.

Sunsets: The complex faces west across the sea; some magnificent, atmospheric sunsets can be observed.

Beaches , Swimming and Snorkelling (see plan): In addition to the swimming pool, you are within yards of the sea. All beaches and coastline are public. The nearest beach is right next door at Pafian Cove. The Pafian Hotel puts out its own sun loungers and parasols so bring your own.

It is possible to swim out to sea from the picturesque Fishermen’s Cove; small fishing boats go out daily from here.

The Akti Cove (about 800 yards south along the Paphos to Coral Bay footpath) has a secluded pebbly beach and lagoon. It is the best place for  swimming out to sea. It is possible to swim from here to Fishermen’s cove.

Much of the shoreline is rocky. It is recommended that you bring beach shoes; they can also be purchased locally . There is plenty to see -- and catch -- by snorkelling in the shallow underwater reefs that stretch all around the coastline.

As usual, be sensible about sea swimming. The prevailing wind (westerly) is on-shore, but on some days, there can be difficult currents.

Car hire: Most guests choose to rent a car; it is relatively cheap and gives greatest flexibility.  Do it online before you come -- or there are many car hire firms competing for your business on the Tombs of the Kings Road at the entry to Paphos town.

Buses: there are frequent buses running along Tombs of the Kings Road,  south into Paphos and  north into Coral Bay. The bus stop is close to the junction with Dimma Road. (see plan)

Taxis: Taxis are readily available. There is a taxi stand at the top of Dimma Road. (see plan)

Groceries: There is a well appointed supermarket, Papantoniou, in Chlorakas Village. (see plan). Mike Kiosk, which is within walking distance (see plan) is useful for some basic supplies.
Note: the word “kiosk” is used in Cyprus to denote a kind of 7-11 store which stays open very late and carries basic necessities.

Telephone: calls are cheap in Cyprus, both internationally and locally. Mobile telephony is very reasonably priced.

A local pay-as you-go SIM card can be bought for your mobile phone at a price of £15.00 which includes £3.00 of calls. The phone can be recharged by purchasing a scratch card at most kiosks.

Telephone cards are also available from kiosks.

The international dial-out code, as in UK, is 00

Electricity: The voltage is the same as UK -- 240v a/c.

The plugs are identical UK square pin plugs

Internet: There is an Internet café, Maroushia’s, in the centre of Old Paphos. Go towards Paphos about 4km; turn left at the first set of lights; drive up Leoforous Pavlou (The Polis Road) about 1.5 km, passing through two sets of traffic lights.  Maroushia’s is on the right hand side, at the third set of lights, on the first floor over the Hellenic Bank.

If you have your own laptop, it is possible to connect from the apartment. We will ask you for your credit card details so that we can charge back the cost of phone calls. Check with your ISP for local dialup numbers. Alternatively, you can use the ‘Cytanet for all’ service. Set up to dial 0992 6262 and enter  ‘cytanetforall’ as username. Leave the password blank.  The cost is £0.20 per 10 minute block. The phone connector is the same as UK.

Radio: According to signal strength, The BBC world service can be picked up on 1323 AM, the British Forces service on 92.1 FM and Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation bulletins in English on  91.1 FM at 10.00 am, 2.00 pm and 8.00 pm. Tip: reception is difficult in Arcadia Village, so tune your car radio to these frequencies.

Sea Front and Tourist Area: This is down near the old harbour and castle. Go towards Paphos and turn right at the first set of lights. The port and seafront are about 2km further down.
